A little added extra… a series of compilations recognising the songs that The Fall took inspiration from (or, to be frank, nicked the riff from).
Part one covers Wonderful & Frightening to The Frenz Experiment.
- Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog (Elves)
- The Deviants – Billy The Monster (Mansion)
- The Monkees – Valleri (Barmy)
- The Groundhogs – Earth Is Not Room Enough (Spoilt Victorian Child)
- The Doors – The Changeling/ Jr. Walker & The All-Stars – Shotgun (Gut Of The Quantifier)
- Can – Oh Yeah (I Am Damo Suzuki)
- Dusty Springfield – Every Day I Have to Cry (To Nkroachment: Yarbles)
- Spinal Tap – Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight (Athlete Cured)
just wanted to point out a borrow i caught the other day, which is that the riff to “Spoiled Victorian Child” is a direct note-for-note lift from “Men 2nd” on Wire’s “Chairs Missing” album. donning my not-a-copyright-lawyer hat, the LP was released in 1978 and would have been known to anyone in the British post-punk underground.
there’s also another one where Craig plays the exact chords from the intro to the Byrds’ “So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star” while the rest of the gruppe play a slight variation on the timing of the change from G to A, but i can’t recall the song offhand.

the killer bass riff of “Bremen Nacht” is borrowed from “Over Board” from Dub Syndicate – “Tunes From The Missing Channel” On-U Sound (1984)

The main ‘Mansion’ sequence is exactly the same as the intro/chorus of the Great Scots’ ‘The Light Hurts My Eyes’
